We ride together. Slow, social, no-drop rides through San Francisco for every kind of cyclist. Bring a bike, bring a friend, or just bring yourself.
First Sunday of every month
A ride for every member of your family tree!
Join us for a slow rollin' good time. There will be bubbles, kids' tunes, and a story time at the end featuring a book about bikes! Kids (of all ages) on balance bikes, pedal bikes, scooters, and cargo bikes are all welcome; we'll pick a pace to accommodate our littlest riders!
Starting at the 'LOVE' blocks on JFK in front of the Conservatory of Flowers, and ending at the meadow across from Metson Lake on Middle Drive. Meet at 9:00am, roll at 9:15.
Last Sunday of every month
This is a ride for the girls and the gays and the theys and the allies who know their place.
This is a chill, no drop, fun vibes, social ride. The rules are: "you must be ready to hoot and holler and have a good time. No talking about fintech."
Meet at 10:45, roll at 11:00.
Second Thursday of every month
Meet at 7:15, Roll at 7:30.
Night Moves is our monthly community bike ride through the city after dark. We meet at the shop, roll out together, and end up somewhere beautiful (the beach, a park, a hilltop) for tea, cookies, and whatever else we've cooked up for the occasion.
The pace is slow and conversational. We don't drop anyone. If the route has a hill, we'll get up that hill at whatever pace it takes. There will be a designated sweeper in the rear who will always ride (or walk if that's what's up) with you till we're all together. We take breaks, we chat, and we get where we're going whenever we get there. If you came to one of our flat fix classes, you can do this ride. If you haven't been on your bike in a while, you can do this ride. If you've never ridden at night before, you can do this ride.
Not every month has a theme, but we've ridden to the beach with radios strapped to our baskets playing Bach. We've climbed Twin Peaks on Valentine's Eve with heart-shaped cookies in our bags. We've served homemade soup and fresh baked bread at Mountain Lake Park while eighty people who'd never met broke bread together. We've celebrated birthdays, chased sunsets at Ocean Beach, and made hot chocolate while the waves crashed in the background.
Bring a mug, a jacket, bike lights if you have them, and a friend if you've got one. If you don't have lights, come anyway. If you don't have a friend, you will by the end of the ride.
Night Moves happens every month except December, when we throw a holiday party instead.
521 Balboa Street. See you out there.
Last Thursday of every month
7:00 to 9:00pm.
Community Night was our first event, and it's still our simplest. We keep the doors open late, turn the music up a little louder than we do during business hours, and pull the beer (and the LaCroix) out of the fridge. That's it. There's no agenda, no sign up, no RSVP. Just show up.
This is your invitation to come take up space in the shop for no other reason than to be here. Tell us your stories, ask us your questions (about bikes or life or whatever), pet the dog, have a drink, and let us enjoy your company. If our classes and rides aren't your thing but you still want to be a part of what we're building, this is your night.
Some of our favorite moments at Scenic Routes have happened on Community Nights. Strangers end up in conversations that go way longer than either of them expected. Someone asks a bike question that turns into a life question. The music gets a little louder and nobody wants to leave.
A few times a year
Pack up your bike and get out of the city together.
We've ridden over the Golden Gate Bridge into the redwoods at Samuel P. Taylor, pedaled across the Presidio to Rob Hill, and ferried out to Angel Island for a weekend of campfires and trail riding. Each trip is different, but the spirit is always the same: go somewhere beautiful, sleep outside, and come home with new friends.
You don't need bikepacking experience. You don't need gear (we have tents, bags, and supplies you can borrow). You don't need to be fast or fit or know what you're doing. You just need a bike and the willingness to try something new.
When we can, we offer multiple route options so you can pick your own adventure. Want to take the short way and focus on the camping? There's a group for that. Want to load up your bike and take the long way around? There's a group for that too. Everyone ends up at the same campsite, and by the second night, it won't matter which route you took.
We cook together, share stories, and make the kind of memories that only happen when you spend a couple of days outside with people you maybe just met. On our Angel Island trip, 25 people showed up (many of them strangers to each other) and by the time we ferried back to the city, something had shifted. That's what a couple of nights in tents and a few shared meals will do.
Trips are announced in our monthly newsletter and spots are limited, so keep an eye out and sign up when you see one. Bring your bike, a sleeping bag (or borrow one of ours), and whatever sense of adventure you've got. We'll take care of the rest.
